My Kitchen and the Cran Rummy Fizz Cocktail

On Christmas Eve, I got a chance to toy around with a cocktail recipe using the Silver Reserve Rum I picked up a few weeks ago at Privateer Distillery.  The cocktail was a hit and would make a great signature drink at your New Years Party. Full disclosure: There’s some cooking involved. But don’t be put off by making your own simple syrup; it’s incredibly easy and yields a large amount of syrup that you can save for future cocktails.


Cranberry Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

2 cups whole cranberries (fresh or frozen)

Cran Rummy Fizz Cocktail

1 1/4 oz Privateer Silver Reserve Rum

3/4 oz Cranberry Simple Syrup

1/3 oz Gin

2 dashes of West Indian Orange Bitters

3 oz Seltzer Water (I opted for seltzer that had a hint of lime)


Bring a small saucepan to boil with 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 cups of whole cranberries.  Let simmer for 10 minutes.


Strain cranberries from simple syrup.  Let cool and set cranberries aside.


Muddle a few mint leaves and reserved cranberries at the bottom of your drink glass (I used mason jars) and fill with ice.


Add rum, simple syrup, gin, seltzer water and mix.  Add a dash of orange bitters after mixing.


Add cranberries and a sprig of mint for garnish.
