Calling all book worms! I’ve compiled a list of my favorite literature with local ties. So find a cozy chair, make a warm cup of tea, and read a book.

The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger – Location: Gloucester, MA. Historical fiction. Junger focuses on the crew of the Andrea Gail during the 1991 Perfect Storm.

The Heretic’s Daughter by Kathleen Kent Location: Salem, MA. The book’s author, Kathleen Kent, is a decendant of Martha Carrier, who was tried as a witch in Salem. The book is in the voice of her daughter, Sarah, who survives.

The Late George Apley by John P. Marquand – Location: Boston, MA. Author John P. Marquand was a graduate of Newburyport High School. The Late George Apley is historically interesting for its portrayal of Boston Brahmin living, and the book won the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for the Novel.
